Professional Programme

Energy Systems & Building Performance

Greece's building stock is old, the climate is getting harder, and the gap between what a retrofit promises and what it delivers is usually a measurement problem.

Duration16 months · full-time
ModeOn campus, Thessaloniki, with site work
IntakeSeptember
Fee€6,100 total

What you will be able to do

  • Audit a building's energy use with instruments rather than assumptions
  • Model a retrofit and state the uncertainty in the payback
  • Specify systems that the client can actually maintain
  • Commission an installation and prove it performs
  • Write a report a non-engineer can act on

Modules

Term 1Thermal physics
Heat transfer, envelope performance, humidity, comfort.
Term 1Measurement
Metering, data logging, billing analysis, common instrumentation errors.
Term 2Systems

Term 2Retrofit practice
Sequencing, disruption, cost, and the difference between a model and a building.
Term 3Economics and policy
Payback, incentives, procurement, and reporting to a client.
Term 3Site project
An audit and retrofit proposal for a real building, with measurements.
